Interesting New Design Inspirations with Light Timber Flooring

It’s amazing how much of an impact the colour of wood has on choosing your colour palette, accessories and décor. When considering your next interior design project, renovation or re-modelling project, seriously consider the colour of the wood you will be using for your floors, wall or ceilings.

Let’s have a look at how Australian interior designers and architects are using light wood colours for visual impact and aesthetic gains.

Some of these ideas draw inspiration from Scandinavian interior styles, where floors are always wooden and are predominantly light in hue.

Kitchen Design Ideas

Having a light, oak or other style of timber for your kitchen floor creates a great base to use some darker colours in your furniture, accessories and décor. Choose dark coloured chairs with light seats and match the chairs to the colour of your cupboards – deep walnuts or very dark mahogany works well for this.

Living Room Design Ideas

Open plan living rooms and dining rooms are becoming increasingly popular in Australia. Let’s discuss a Scandinavian inspired décor option. This type of colour palette is very light, and very simple. It includes shades of grey, blue and heaps of white. A few bold touches of colour can be included, but sparingly for maximum effect.

For your dining table choose a very similar, if not identical stain of timber to your coffee table and consider some chairs with black backs for a stark offset.

Finally, for your couches and lounge chairs go with a dark grey colour with some white throw pillows. Some houseplants are always a nice touch to bring in some natural energy and greenery, and a few bright and colourful artworks spaced selectively can work well.

Office or Study Ideas

Light timber can be used very effectively in an office, or study idea – light, neutral colours can help improve focus, and the stunning light timber achieves a chic feel.
